Lego Star Wars Cake & Cake Pops

For my boys birthday party this year, I made a Lego Star Wars cake.  Luke was molded in a Lego cake pan. The light saber is from a set of chopsticks.

I made some cake pops to go with the cake. Han Solo, Luke Skywalker and Princess Leia. For Leia I stuck Cheerios on her head before I dipped it to make her buns.

Lego Crayons

I almost bought some of these when I realized I could make my own. I bought my Lego mold from Lego.com.  First you unwrap your crayons.  I found that the name brand crayons work much better. The random ones didn't melt as well. Break up one crayon per Lego guy and put it in the mold.

Place the mold on another tray, it will need the support.  Bake at 250 for about 8 minutes or until melted.

Take them out of the oven and let them cool.  You can put them in the fridge if you need them to cool faster.  When they are hard, carefully pop them out of the mold. I found it best do to the head first. Less of a chance of it breaking off. Just go slow.

Then you have these cute Lego crayons.  My sons loved giving them to their friends for their birthday party favors.

Alice in Wonderland / Topsy Turvy Cake

A very merry unbirthday to you!

First I stacked the bottom level, frosted it and then cut out a level area for tier #2 to go on.  There are also dowels in there to support the next tier. The 2nd and 3rd tiers were on cardboard cake circles.

I did the same thing with the next tier. Then I drove a dowel down through the entire cake.

It looks so crooked, but I thought it was stable enough with each tier being flat inside the tier below it. I made marshmellow fondant for the hearts, signs, cheshire cat, and hat brim. The rest was a whipped non-dairy frosting.

I made white roses and "painted" them red with spray food coloring.

But the next morning I woke up to this...
The top tier just tore right through the dowels and ripped the 2nd tier down with it.  So I rebuilt it. I re-frosted the bottom tier (just a little more curvy now).  Then I cut away the middle tier to clean it up a bit. I happened to have one 9" cake left that I didn't use, so I cut it up to rebuld this tier.

I frosted over the "new" tier and covered up some flaws with the clock.  You can tell it's not perfectly round, but since it's a wacky cake, it really didn't matter much.

The top tier got significantly shorter. Didn't want to risk it toppling over again.

Overall, I think it turned out cute and it was big hit at the Unbirthday party.
